"Made from a field blend of old vines with Touriga Nacional in the lead, the wine is richly textured and darkly structured. Tannins and concentration yield a wine that is still firm and with more aging to do." - Wine Enthusiast

"The 2017 Símbolo is a field blend (mostly Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca) from vines ranging from 40 to 60 years in age. It was aged for 18 months in new French oak and comes in at 14.2% alcohol. This is the point in the lineup where two things happen: the price spikes dramatically and the winery partly abandons that "you can drink me now" vibe that its other reds have this issue. Despite the extra year of age on this wine, there is more serious grip on the finish and more of a backbone. The tannins are not particularly hard, though. The oak gives the texture a touch of cream, but that will get better in time. Then, this coats the palate and adds intensity of flavor that its siblings this issue lack. It remains rather elegant overall. When this settles down, it should be super—the only question will be how super. You could approach it now, but it really needs a couple of years of cellaring to come together." - Robert Parker
